A Dogs Senses

Dog’s come equipped with the same five senses that humans have:

sight, smell, touch, hearing, and taste

But they don’t see, smell, hear, touch, or taste the world in the same way that humans do.

It was once believed that dogs were colour blind, but research has determined that it isn’t true.

Humans do, however, see and distinguish between colours better than dogs. Chalk one up for mankind.

On the other hand, dogs can detect motion much better than humans. Their night vision is several times better than a human’s as well. Okay, chalk one up for Fido.

There’s not even any contest between a dog’s hearing and a human’s hearing.

Dogs can hear at four times the distance humans can hear

You might be able to detect a sound from 100 yards away, but your dog could hear the same sound from a quarter mile away. That one goes to Fido.

The sense of touch is a tie. Dogs can sense touch all over their bodies the same way that a human can.

Dogs and humans also have similar degrees of sense of taste. Our opinions do vary. Humans avoid things that smell bad, but dogs relish the taste of smelly stuff, and the smellier the better.

The sense of taste is a tie.

Now let’s talk about the sense of smell

As you might expect, the sense of smell is no contest. The dog wins hands down!

Researchers estimate that a dog’s sense of smell is 100,000 times more powerful than a human’s.

When you come home, your dog takes a sniff and knows where you’ve been, what you’ve done, and who you’ve talked to.

In the dog’s opinion, humans are smell impaired. And we are, compared to our dogs!
